Catdoku is a logic puzzle game based on Sudoku, but instead of filling in numbers, you have to place the cats in the right spots on a grid of squares. The rules are really simple. Each row, each column and each coloured region can only have one cat. Also, the cats cannot be next to each other, even if they touch at the corner.
Each level has a grid with numerous distinct coloured sections and forms. You need to look over the complete grid and delete the locations where you cannot place a cat. If a row or a space only has one possible place, it is the clue to solve the rest.
The beauty of Catdoku is you don't have to calculate or guess. You can work out every solution from the positions you have identified. The later stages are usually bigger grids, and more complicated divisions of the grid; therefore, they take a longer time to locate the answer.

Locate a Safe Location
Start with the rows, columns or coloured sections with the fewest blank cells. This will usually give a clear indication of where to put the first cat.
Check Rows and Columns
Place a cat, then clear the cells in the same row and column. This also restricts the choices for the next cats.
Keep Cats Apart
Also, remember to check the diagonal cells. Two cats can not contact each other (even diagonally) therefore sometimes a position that looks valid has to be removed.
Focus on those places where there are few viable cells.
After every cat placement, re-check the row and column.
Mark any cells that definitely won’t work.
Always check diagonal cells before adding a cat.
Don’t just guess. Look for clues from the positions you’ve set.
If you like light puzzles but still want to improve your observation and reasoning skills, Catdoku is for you. A level is like putting together small pieces until the whole board is solved.
